RE: Lighter Socket on Antenna Plate

It is slightly smaller in order to have a tighter fit with the male plug. Other wise the male plug would fall out more often since gravity works that way. Also it is to small for a cigarette lighter to fit into. Since the wiring is not heavy enough to sustain a direst short that is required for a cigarette lighter.

RE: Questions About Suburban Gas Furnace

OK, the first question; The extra ducts should not be closed off because the furnace needs to have at least that many outlets. It would be better if the ducts had ducting connected to them and on most modern rigs they would have, so maybe you should be talking to the builder. Normally one of those ducts would go to your area that contains your black and grey water tanks and manifolds. The other would go to the fresh water tank and pump area. Protects these areas from freezing up on cold nights.
The second question; On my rig at the thermostat there is a automatic and a manual selecter switch if I leave it on the auto switch it runs longer after the furnace shuts down. At one time it used to run like yours but I had it corrected by the Dinosaur electronic company at Lincoln City, Oregon when they installed some electronics for me.
The sensor that shuts the fan down was relocated away from the fire box but still on the furnace. It now blows for a maximum of two minutes after the furnace shuts down.

RE: furnace problem

Unless you are in a hurry just wait about three or four weeks for the dead bats bodies to become desicated than remove the stainless steel plate that guards the exhaust and intake and fish them out using a long piece of wire that has been hooked on the end.
If your in a hurry take off the larger plate that will allow you to remove the exhaust and intake pipes and remove their bodies.
Than screen the ends of the pipes with metal screening.
Just be happy they were not yellow jackets that sometimes get in there and build hives.

VCR's and cable tv signals

Will VCR's that recieve their signal from cable company set ups still work. {note that I said cable reception not over the air} And also how is the analog tuner on my TV's going to be able to tune in channel numbers that are in decimals? For that matter will TV guides be printed with both analog and the new decimal channel numbers?
And a thousand other questions for this mess that has been created.
Truthfully I doubt that this whole change over has been thought through very well.
Come Febuary 09 there are going to be an awful lot of very angry people in this nation of ours.

New type of Solar Panels.

About a year ago, maybe less, there were some stories about a new solar panel that had been developed in California through a photografic method. The builder was said to be turning all his production over to a European solar farm for the first year and than they would be put on the market.
Has any one heard anything further?
From what I understood at the time several millions of dolars was already spent on the building of a production plant, so It does not seem reasonable that this project would just up and die.
Some of you people who are experts in this field must have followed this development quite cloely. How about a follow up report.
I'm sure others will interested as well.

Faulty gas gauge.

I have a !996 Itasca, mounted on the P32 Chev chassis.
Lately the gas gauge needle seems to roam about. When it first started the gauge would read accurately until it got down around half full and than it would start roaming but never read higher than the level in the tank now it stays on full until the level in the tank reach's half full and than it roams from full to empty.
If you have some knowledge or experience with this problem please let me know how to cure it.
And as usual no guess's please. I don't need any help guessing, I'm pretty good at that myself.
By the way a Chevy truck dealer I stopped and asked about it said he thought it could be the sending unit inside the tank but he would not know until he pulled the tank off and than he may have to replace the entire tank because some tanks have the sending unit as a permanent part of the tank. Ha astimated the bill to be somewhere between $700 and a $1000. I don't need a gas gauge that bad.

RE: Les Swab (swindler)

A couple years back I had a blowout on the right rear inside dual. I managed to limp into the LS dealer in Port Angeles, Wa. He had no new tires that would fit but he had several good looking used Michelin's and talked me into buying them to replace all of my well used tire's. I left quite happy. That is until the next day when I was about ten miles East of Florence Oregon and had a rear tire blow out again. That's right one of the tires I had just bought from the dealer in PA. The Les Schwab dealer in Florence took them all off the MH and replaced them with Toyo's or what ever their called. Gave me full credit for the Michelin's and knocked off 10% for the Toyo's. The Michelin's were all 7 years old.
The difference here in dealers was, that the Port Angeles store, was a franchise dealer and the Florence store was a company store.
By the way, four hundred miles later at Covington, Wa. I had the Toyo's replaced by A Les Schwab brand and got full credit for them also.
The lousy piece of junk tire's were like riding on square wheels. The Les Schwab tires were cheaper had a better warrantee and ride quite well.
Don't blame Les Schwab for the tricks that the franchise dealers pull.

RE: Can I replace an RV refrigerator with a regular refrigerator

I have had a 120 vac Sears 11 cu. ft. That lasted two years while I owned the MH and at least four more years that I know of. This unit did not require any extra ventilation because it had the coils under neath and it's own fan. It was powered by a Heart Interface 1800 watt inverter and had no problem running 24 hours on one 12 volt battery. Unless you are in very hot country and open the door a lot these home type reefer's only seem to have about a six minute per hour duty cycle. I think the lousy light bulb inside used more juice than the compressor did.
I also have had a straight propane reefer called a remote cabin model. It was a 12 cu. ft. also purchased from Sears in Montana. I had to install a small muffin fan in the area of the coils to ventilate it the coils were in the back of the unit and it ventilated out through the regular vent on the side of the MH. Just like your regular RV reefer does. The muffin fan was 12 vdc and the solinoid that held the propane valve open was also 12 vdc. Their draw was not worth mentioning.
Regular RV reefer's draw a lot more current and use a lot more propane than the house type reefer or the cabin type propane reefer's do.

RE: kwikee electric steps

I'm surprised at the treatment you received from Kwikee, they have always been very helpful to me,including sending me parts at no charge. On one ocassion when the paint started to peal off on a step I called them to ask if I could order some paint from them and they said the paint shouldn't do that and sent me a complete step.
Maybe you should call them back and ask to speak to a supervisor and it wouldn't hurt to mention that you got the suggestion from RV.net Forum.
I put them right up their with Fantastic Fan in customer service.

RE: Delamination

Damn, it's always nice to hear one of our own trying to justify a thiefs reason for being a thief.
Who's to say when the delamination began. It is my guess that the unit began delaminating well before it was actually noticeble to the owner.
Companies that operate like Thor need to be black balled, not excused.

RE: Fighting RV fires, especially in MH.

I've seen three MH's burn up and they go so fast that it is unbelievable.
One of them was late at night in New Mexico along side of a road leading from Deming to Silver City. The older couple inside didn't make it out.
And I firmly believe the reason was the coach was of the type that has the door up near the windshield. It was just to far to go, to and exit. The emergency exit was in the rear. You were supposed to kick out the rear window. but the fire started in the rear engine compartment and the flames were spread all over the rear of the coach.
I have long waged a fight with coach manufactorers to put and exit door nearer the rear of the coach. To no avail. Their reasoning varies from taking away from the appearance of the coach to increased cost of a second door and redesign of the coach.
Believe this. If your rig catches fire don't waste time fighting it just get out as fast as you can. The fumes that are created from these rigs burning are so toxic that one or two breaths of them are enough to put you down and out.
Fight it from the outside if you feel you need to. But the best way to fight it is from fifty feet away.

RE: Portable Camping Showers

Wow, why do you suppose I get the idea that some people who answered my thread are a bit touchy?
I only asked my question on this forum because I thought someone might have a better idea, but I find you don't have a better idea just a more expensive idea.
The mention of buying a full sized tent was not to sleep in but rather just to shower in. Your suggestion of spending well over $150 for a 4x4 tent Made no sense when I could buy a 10X10 tent for less money and have a dressing room thrown in.
I'm sorry maybe I'm wrong, but I get the impression that maybe my idea of buying a full sized tent would have been more acceptable to you, if it had been your idea.
And by the way I don't tent camp anymore, I motor home. I gave up tent camping before you were born, probably even before your pa was born.
I hail from Montana and do my RVing here. In the west We don't waste any water when out in the dry country we use it to irrigate what ever may be growing nearby. I have yet to see a plant that suffered from a little soap in the water. In fact soap is a well known bug repellant for plants.
GOODBYE!!!

RE: Portable Camping Showers

OK, three, well meant, answers, and the local idiot{Sorry I just couldn't resist}
But for the price of these suggestions I could buy a full sized tent. That would allow me to set up the shower in one corner and have the rest of the tent for a dressing room.
Thanks again for your well intended thoughts.

Portable Camping Showers

Can anyone recommend a good one that has it's primary use as a shower. I Have tried the one from Wally World and it is so poorly made that the seams parted after a half dozen showers and the zippers got caught continually.
The big 7 footer from K-Mart called Northwest Territories cannot support a five gallon Solar water heater bag. and they make no way to bring a shower nozzle and hose in from outside.
So far I have over $90 invested and still have nothing that can be used as a shower. There must be something available that has enough quality to last at least one summer, for two people.
What do you use and how do you rate it?

RE: can't find a wiring diagram

Sorry, but I doubt that you or anyone else will be able to find a diagram for any wiring harness connected with any RV.
It's like, they don't make wiring diagrams because they never wire any two alike. The manufacters don't even use a similar color code system. I have even seen them use a different color on a given wire from one connection to the other connection. It's like, "What ever is available". Or can be patched together.

RE: Heart Inverter/Charger

To start with I believe Trace and Heart went together and formed Xantrex. I had one and had no problems with it. Yes it is a three stage charger. Mine was one of the first ones and had a maximum of 100 amps charge rate. I believe the later ones were 125 amp rate.
If yours says Heart Interface on it than I believe it will be over 7-8 years old. Heart ceased to exist in the late 90's.

RE: I have a battery charging mystery!

OK, time for the load test results. Ran the load test for 24 minutes. It started off at 125 amp draw. With batteries at 12.81 volts. As it progressed the voltage in batteries dropped to a low of 12.0 and the amp draw increased to 161 amps.
Finally shut it down to protect batteries. Let the batteries set over night and checked them three and a half hours ago. The voltage has increased from 12.0 to 12.15. Put them back on the Smart charger and just now the charger said they were fully charged at 100%. And the smart charger shut down at zero charge rate. Tried one other charger and it showed a charge rate of 6 amps but very soon dropped to zero also.
The mystery remains. Probably will never get an answer. Unless some one else reads this who has more experience.
